Alpha2EQ is an active biologic, equine joint-injection therapy with concentrated Alpha-2 Macroglobulin (α2M) isolated from your horse’s own blood to treat the lameness, joint pain and osteoarthritis at the source. It is a simple, two-step process that can be completed in less than one-hour, producing a super-concentrated solution serum of anti-inflammatory and healing factors that is injected into the affected joint.
Our breakthrough technology is based upon a naturally occurring molecule within the body. This molecule, Alpha-2 Macroglobulin (α2M), is found within the blood and provides a defense against the excessive breakdown of cartilage. Unfortunately, the α2M in our body is found in low concentrations within the joints and is unable to fully protect against the progression of osteoarthritis (OA) in damaged joints and an aging population. Alpha2EQ is injected intra-articular (into the joint).
Alpha2EQ treats a variety of inflammatory orthopedic conditions. As a preemptive intervention, the use of concentrated Alpha-2 Macroglobulin therapy helps prevent further joint destruction. Please talk with your veterinarian to best determine a diagnosis and treatment plan.
The single-treatment, concentrated power of Alpha2EQ relieves lameness, inflammation and joint pain often for up to one year. However, there are several mitigating factors to the efficacy of the therapy, including the horse’s metabolism and the severity of the horse’s joint disease.
Risks may be considered inherent with any procedure or injection to a joint with any substance. However, there are no side effects to the active biologic procedure or Alpha-2 Macroglobulin when administered into a joint. Unlike steroid injection, there are no known long-term risks of Alpha2EQ therapy. It is also safe to use in joints that have previously been injected with other biologics or steroids.

No therapy is universally effective, however Alpha2EQ is proving to be highly effective for a variety of inflammatory orthopedic conditions in the veterinary world. What we do know is this – the Alpha2EQ therapy has shown to be a safe and effective therapy allowing animal patients to reclaim their mobility and performance activities.
First, ask your local veterinarians if they offer Alpha2EQ. If not, they are more than welcome to contact us – we would love to get them onboard. We work with animal healthcare professionals all over, and it is always great to add a new partner to our growing list. Additionally, you can go to this page and fill-out the form. We will contact you directly within 24 hours!
Yes, and we are proud to say it. Other therapies only have Alpha-2 Macroglobulin as an “ingredient”, but the AlphaActive Concentration Process is the ONLY process that intentionally concentrates the α2m in patients’ blood. The Alpha2 Therapies are the only products on the market today that allow veterinarians to inject the concentrated therapeutic α2m back into the afflicted joint. That is why the Alpha2EQ Therapy has remarkable, rapid results.
Yes. There have been multiple patents awarded for our unique α2m concentration process. You can find the results of our research here on our website.
Alpha-2 Macroglobulin (α2m) is a known biologically active protein that is concentrated through our proprietary and patented AlphaActive Concentration Process. Alpha2EQ is the first of the biologic therapies that focuses on a known protein with specific functions and harnesses the power of α2m to ensure a more targeted, effective therapy.
Yes, this product is not contraindicated after using other biologic therapies. It is an excellent choice to treat inflammation and normalizing an inflammatory environment as a pretreatment for regenerative therapies such as PRP and Stem Cells. Your veterinarian can discuss with you a treatment plan with Alpha2EQ.
We always recommend that you check with your veterinarian to discuss both a diagnosis and treatment plan. If your vet has any questions about Alpha2EQ, please share with them what you’ve discovered about the power of concentrated Alpha-2 Macroglobulin (α2m).
The results of the treatment can be observed within a few days of the procedure and have long-lasting effects of 6 or 12 months. Our process provides enough concentrate for 3-6 injections, depending on the injury site and veterinary technique.

We are a biotechnology company specializing in the development of diagnostics and therapeutics for osteoarthritis (OA), a disease of the joints that renders the afflicted immobile and in constant pain. The initial product was a biomarker assay for the detection of inflammation in joints and the spine. This discovery led to the development of a regenerative therapy that uses a novel protein called Α2M (alpha-2 macroglobulin) to halt the progression of osteoarthritis and allow the body to repair itself.
Glad you asked! Our name, Astaria, is pronounced “as-tar-ree-a” and is derived from a mash-up of the word “astra”, from the Latin etymology meaning “journey to the stars” and combined with the Latin “aria” meaning orchestral accompaniment. Thus, the name comes to mean “coming together in pursuit of something greater.” The journey of science led us to an amazing discovery that we are excited to share with the equine and companion animal lovers all over the world.
Our patented and advanced plasma technology isolates and concentrates the Alpha-2 Macroglobulin molecule. This is called the AlphaActive (Alpha2) Concentrate Process. Our Alpha2 Regenerative Therapies use this process, which are specifically designed for inflammation and degeneration of joints in horses and companion animals. The Alpha2EQ Therapy is specifically designed for horses; thus the “EQ” stands for equine in the name. We liked the idea of something simple, descriptive and easy to remember.
We have conducted a clinical safety study and are finalizing a proteomics equine study at Boise State University. When completed, the results of our research will be available here on our website.

Yes we do. We currently have product available in the USA and the UK, and have plans for emerging markets in the not-so-distant future. We have lots of interest in Europe and look forward to selling there one day, but we do not sell there currently. Have an idea you would like to discuss? Feel free to reach out!
